We as household members should take the responsibility to take care of every piece of furniture in our house, since it is not that easy to invest in good home furniture nowadays. It is good to know that there is a new way you can apply in cleaning your precious home furniture, especially those made of wood. In no time, you will be able to bring back the shine and gloss in your wooden furniture with the help of a humble citrus fruit called a lemon.

Before going any further, let us first get acquainted with this yellowish, succulent fruit. Lemon, or Citrus limon, is a native Asian tree with about ten known varieties. It is rich in vitamins and minerals, especially those in the B group. The high acidity of lemon contributes to its effectiveness in sucking out unwanted stench, eliminating grease, and killing bacteria. In culinary, it is reputed as a source of kick and refreshing taste in food, and it is also commonly added in salads and dressings.

Its reputation in the non-culinary field is more attributed to the quality of oil it produces. As a highly lubricating agent, lemon oil can be effectively mixed with other liquid to create a furniture polish. Lemon-oil polish will definitely make our home-cleaning chore an invigorating experience.

Not much skill is needed when creating your own homemade lemon-oil polish. You only need the following ingredients and materials: lemon oil, lemon juice, olive oil or jojoba oil, a dropper, a spoon, and a container.

With your dropper, put ten drops of lemon oil into a container. Make sure you are using pure lemon oil that can be procured from herbalists. If you have the commercially available brand of lemon oil, check if it has the "Flammable" warning on its packaging. If you see this warning, replace it with a pure one. The petroleum distillates and solvents contained in commercial brands of lemon oil are dangerous ingredients that you should not get exposed to. In the first measurement, add two tablespoons of lemon juice. Then, add a few drops of olive oil or jojoba oil. You now have your homemade lemon-oil furniture polish.

It is interesting to know that there is an alternative recipe for this lemon-oil polish. You need to combine a half cup of water with a few drops of lemon oil. This is a good alternative if you are opting for a polish that is thinner and has a lower consistency.

To try the effectiveness of your concoction, wipe a piece of wooden furniture with a soft cloth damped with the mixture. To clean up the excess oil on the surface, wipe it off with the dry part of the cloth. Now, you should be able to see what this self-made lemon-oil polish can do to your wooden furniture.
